Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek (Trekking up close to third highest)

Trip Overview

One of longest trek in Nepal, Kanchenjung base camp trek provides the opportunity to view farming in the lowest altitude(70m) to panoramic view of the mountains including Kanchenjunga(8586m) from Pengpema(5190m) along with Yalung Kang(8505m) and Yalung glacier at the higher altitude.

Wild and challenging trekking route in the remote Kangchenjunga region around rarely visited north east corner of Nepal. Until 1849 Kangchenjunga was thought to be the world’s highest mountain, but now accepted figure for this mountain is 3rd highest with it’s height of 8,586m after Everest-the highest and K2-the second highest.
The Grand Kanchenjung and and it’s dominating range has created the form of a giant unreachable borders of three countries, Nepal, Tibet(China) and Sikkim(India).
Beside main peak Kanchenjunga, four other subsidiary unregistered summits exceed 8000m, the most prominent is Kangchenjunga West, also known as Yalung Kang (8,505m) and stunning neighbouring numerous 7000m peaks including Peak Kambachen, Peak Jannu and Peak Pyramid.

Base camp to Kanchenjung is two; South Side and North side, Remje/Otang. South side is easy and can be reached within lesser days whereas Kanchenjunga North Base Camp which is called Pangpema in Local Sherpa Language takes longer days trek, needs hardcore trekking ability and this is where our final peak point will be and returning point.
Grassy plain, Major glacier system origin and surrounded by the incredible Peaks of Kanchenjunga range is undoubtaly a true national treasures of Nepal.

Most of the upper part of the trek comes under the spectacular National Park characterized by exceptional natural and cultural diversity, ethnic groups such as the Rai and Limbu in the lower and middle part and Sherpas in the higher regione live peacefully together in a magnificent wealth of flora and fauna.

Tamur and Ghunsa Rivers, originated from the the northwest side of Kanchenjunga and Yalung glaciers is lifelile for livelyhood of lower region whereas originated from the north east side of Kanchenjung flows several glacial systems, increase its’s force while flowing further down and ultimately becomes mightly Tista river.

The Greater Himalaya Region remained mythical and hidden and restricted till 1988 which have undoubtebly made a significant contribution to the preservation of it’s flora and fauna, unspoiled himalayan buddhism, People, Cultures and numerous monasteries and chortes.
